![]() The Libra is powered by a 1,200 mAh battery that should provide two weeks of constant reading on a single charge. ![]() The SD card is soldered right onto the motherboard and cannot be expanded. The internal storage stems from an SD card that is only evident if you take the e-reader apart. Underneath the hood is a Freescale Solo Lite 1GHZ processor, 8GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM. The lightning system is primarily used in low light conditions and they are better than using the a nearby lamp or a reading light, since the e-reader lights do not normally interfere with your circadian rhythms. It also has an auto mode to adjust the light automatically, although this device does not have a ambient light sensor, it instead uses whatever timezone you are in. They can also be used independently of each other, or shut off completely. The white and amber LED lights can be used at the same time, with a slider bar in the drop down menu. This is great for long reading sessions, because the light is not shining into your eyes. They are using white and amber LED lights on the bottom of the screen and they project light upwards and evenly across the screen. Kobo has incorporated a front-lit screen and their patented Comfortlight screen technology in all of their modern e-readers. I find that plastic based screens that has a small dip, offer better resolution. This means it is using Neonode Z Force IR technology for the screen interactions. ![]() The screen is not flush with the bezel, instead it has a small recess. The Libra features a 7 inch E Ink Carta HD display with a resolution of 1,680 x 1,264 and 300 PPI. The big selling points is that it has manual page turn buttons, a new e-reading system and the same design sensibilities as the Kobo Forma, but it costs $100 less. This device is going to be available around September 15th in North America and will hit Europe and other markets later this year. So it’s a bit quirky at this point & maybe a firmware update in the future might fix that. The Kobo Libra H2O is the latest generation e-reader from Kobo. So if you do not see your Bluetooth-enabled device in the first scan, you must go back and forth. Also, the Bluetooth interface does not have a rescan feature. And since the progress is synced on all the devices, you can be sure to pick up on another device from where you left off.īluetooth is however not 5.0. Likely hood of someone carrying a mobile phone is more than a laptop, tablet & e-reader.Also, this use case mostly fits when you are commuting or just lying down with closed eyes but want to listen to the book for better concentration and reduced distraction. More so because audio is supported only via Bluetooth and there is no audio headphone jack you can use. For this matter then it becomes irrelevant if you are using it via e-reader or through a mobile device. Audiobooks are preferred when you just want to listen and not stare at the device.Kobo App which you can install on any mobile device such as your phone, laptop, or tablet already supports audiobooks. Please note that this justification is only valid for existing Kobo e-readers be it Libra H2O or Elipsa or Forma. ![]() Will you upgrade to the newer Kobo model just for this feature alone? This is a personal choice, but I want to put the following points in my defense of the “not-so” deal-breaker of a feature. However, the point is if this is even a deal-breaker. By introducing this new feature, Kobo has now closed the gap that Amazon Kindle was showing as a differentiator, and that too at a price much lower than what Amazon Kindle Oasis sells at if you pick Libra 2 for that. Audiobook was the feature that none of the previous Kobo e-readers had.
